The operator’s cab is designed to protect you against dust, cold and heat. The heater unit requires little maintenance, however, it is worth checking for the accumulation of dirt and debris in the heater core.
Filters
The cab may be equipped with either a fresh-air filter, a recirculating-air filter, or both.
Fresh-Air Filters
Remove the dry-type filter from its housing. With the dirty side down, tap the filter gently on a flat surface.
With compressed air, blow through the filter in the opposite direction of the air flow (Air flow is usually indicated by arrows).
If the filter is still dirty, soak it for 15 minutes in warm water with a nonsuding (dishwasher) cleaner.
Rinse until clean with water from a hose.
Shake off excessive water from the filter and allow to dry.
Reinstall the filter with the arrows pointing in the direction of the air flow.
Recirculating Air Filters
Remove the urethane foam filter and clean by tapping or shaking the filter.
If the filter is still dirty, wash in clean water and allow it to dry completely.
Air Conditioner
Service the air conditioning system periodically to maintain maximum cooling.
Check the evaporator core for accumulation of dirt and debris – clean if necessary.
Check the refrigerant level at the sight glass. To do this, start the engine and run it at fast idle. Turn on the air conditioner to the highest speed and the coldest temperature. If the bubbles do not stop flowing, the refrigerant level is low. Your service shop will need to do the recharging.
If water is not draining from the evaporator properly, check the evaporator drain trap for clogging or a dry trap. If the water has evaporated from the trap, the trap needs to be primed. Momentarily hold a garden hose against the bottom of the drain tube to fill the trap with water.
Compressor seals may dry out during cold weather when the air conditioner has not been operated for long periods of time. This will cause leaks which will allow the refrigerant to escape. To avoid this problem, operate the air conditioner for 5 to 10 minutes at a time at least once a month to prevent seals from drying out.
